I think i may have finally found the perfect Linux tablet
I have been looking, for years. For a tablet where i can get a full Linux experience without a whole lot of downsides or gotchas. I recently picked up a Asus Transformer Mini from my work. After a few days with this device i think i can safely say i have found it.
I went with OpenSuse Tumbleweed and KDE. Sound, brightness control, suspend, etc are all working out of the box (older kernels i had issues with sound and brightness control.) After installing Firefox beta so i could get a recent fix to Xinput2 (which should land stable here soon at which point i can drop beta) and installing onboard for onscreen keyboard i have found what is for me the perfect Linux tablet experience.
Onboard has many different layouts, i went with the compact layout. It supports multi-touch and is very responsive. I am able to type as fast as i want and it keeps up. I also really like its docking feature makes it fit really cleanly. It is surprisingly snappy and the battery life is amazing. I have been using it all day and i hardly notice any drain despite messing with steam games (light games like rouge-lands and hammerwatch which both played fine.) Watching YouTube and Plex as well as naturally Reddit.
The weight is good and feels good to hold in portrait mode touch is accurate and it doesn't get hot (one small spot gets a little warmer than the rest but not hot) Charging requires a charger that supports 9v quick-charge unless you can wait the 8+ hours that 5v charging will take even with a charger that supports 4Amps (device will only pull about 1.56A at 5v.)
