>> Original Source <<Hi ,
just found out how its possible to build an Longhorn PE CD without extracting the install.wim file.Found a few topics on the web but they had a few bugs for the new Longhorn Version.
- So first start setup.exe /noreboot from the longhorn CD or from the Location on HDD where you copied it.
- After that is finished you will find an folder $windows.~bt on your hdd , copy all the files in there with directories to a folder where you will build the Longhorn PE cd from (e.g. C:\lpe\i386) make sure you copy the files to the i386 folder.
- now take the Win51, win51ip, winbom.ini, and readme.htm from the Longhorn cd copy these files to C:\lpe;
- then copy the ntdetect.com and txtsetup.sif from the root of your drive to C:\lpe\i386
- last copy the setupldr.bin from your LonghornCD\Boot folder to C:\lpe\i386 then delete C:\lpe\i386\bootsect.dat .
- open txtsetup.sif search for BootPath delete that line.Open setupreg.hiv with regedit load hive and go to the setup key change cmdline to the program you want to start (e.g.:cmd.exe) and unload hive.
- Make an iso of the c:\lpe folder with the bootsector of an xp cd and burn it.Thats it.
